Pre-Primary level
Ballet is an excellent core subject for dancing as it teaches children discipline, technique,
rhythm, balance and
control and very good for building a child's confidence.
At STAG we offer class exams which are known as standard exams. These exams are taken as a
whole class although pupils are marked
individually. These exams are offered to all STAG ballet students and because they are taken as a class
group with the class teacher - our students are less nervous. When the students reach standard
4 - character work is then introduced.
From The Ballet Team
We also offer grade classes. As an additional ballet lesson a week to our pupils
who show potential in their standard ballet class.
The reason for grade classes being an addition to standard is that the work involved is a lot more technical and the students need to be a lot stronger which is why they require at least two classes each
week this is because of the
additional technique and poise.
Required for the grade exams - these classes are smaller in size than our standard classes, as this enables the students more intense teaching. In grade classes you eventually go onto
Pointe work. But, only when your body and ankles are strong enough to take your body weight through
Pointe without injuring yourself.
This will be decided by your dance teacher and will vary from child to child.
When entering grade exams you go into the exam in groups of three or four students without the class teacher. You are marked individually and the examiner marks
are stricter for your technique than in a normal class exam.
